Welcome,In this issue, we are delighted to bring you news of a number of events happening on campus over the next few weeks and months. We are also currently planning International Chapter events inLondon, BostonandNew Yorkand we will announce details of those very soon. 2017 CLASS REUNIONS .... REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

With the growth of our Reunion programme (this year, we will host 8 different classes), we have reviewed the format and this year we will host the reunions at three different venues.

The classes of '97, '02, '07 and '12 will be welcomed in the Stables Club with a Barbecue and party til late. More details can be foundhere.

The classes of '82, '87 and '92 will dine at The Pavilion restaurant on the north campus. For further details, clickhere.

Finally,the class of 1977 will celebrate their 40 year reunion in the familiar surroundings of the East Room in Plassey House, clickherefor more details.

COUNTDOWN TO 2017 UL GAMES FOR ALUMNI & FRIENDS

A unique sporting event, UL Games for Alumni & Friends,will provide graduates and friends of ULwith an opportunity to reconnect with the campus community, Alumni and Clubs & Societies in a fun and relaxing environment.

The inaugural Games will take place on campus during the weekend of the 26thto 28thMay 2017 and participants will have the opportunity to stay in campus accommodation, avail of UL’s world class sporting facilities whilst enjoying networking and social evenings with guest speakers.

ALUMNI AWARDS NOMINATIONS ...DEADLINE APPROACHING

As we enter the 12thyear of our very successful annual UL Alumni Awards programme, we are sending a special appeal to our Alumni community to nominate worthy graduates for this prestigious honour.

Many of you are more than aware of fellow-graduates who are making outstanding contributions across a variety of fields from business to sport to technology to humanitarian endeavours... At UL Alumni, we would like you to tell us about them.

If you know a Graduate who has excelled and should be considered for a UL Alumni Award, please send in a nomination (closing date for nominations is5 May).

LE CHÉILE – HOSTED BY PRESIDENT, A FUNDRAISING EVENT IN SUPPORT OF THE STUDENT FINANCIAL AID FUND

As Prof Don Barry's term as President of UL nears its conclusion, he invites you totake time out to celebrate… and do some good. This yearour annual campus gathering wilraise much-needed funds forthe Student Financial Aid Fund and the Presidenthopesgraduates will joinhim and colleagues from the wider UL community on April 27th. This year’s gathering will also feature music by The Blizzards, Colm Mac Con Iomaire & Friends, The Irish World Academy of Music & Dance, The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow and Stomptown Brass.

LAUNCH OF MID-WEST REGIONAL SKILLS EXPO

The launch of the inaugural Mid-West Regional Skills Expo, supported by UL,recently took place in the UL Sports Arena. The Expo will take place onFriday 28thand Saturday 29thAprilin theUniversity of Limerick Sports Arenaandwill bring together talented, highly skilled individuals with businesses in cutting edge sectors. Graduates of UL are invited to attend.

In support of the event Minister of State for Employment & Small Business, Mr Pat Breen T.D, commented, “It is wonderful to see such fantastic collaboration and innovation coming out of the Mid-West. An event such as this is a strong testament to the industry growth we have experienced in recent years. The Irish employment market is currently one of the strongest in Europe and it is collaborative events such as this help companies to network, learn, expand and create jobs." NEW YORK LOCATION FOR UL/FRANK MCCOURT CREATIVE WRITING SUMMER SCHOOL

In the beautiful surroundings of Glucksman Ireland House at NYU from 22nd - 25th June, the University of Limerick (with thesupport ofShannon Airport) will host the 2017 Frank McCourt Creative Writing Summer School. Graduates and friends are invited to study writing in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, with bestselling authors Joseph O'Connor, Donal Ryan and Sarah Moore Fitzgerald, poet Mary O'Malley, UL professor Eoin Devereux among others. Loretta Glucksman said: “It's our joy at Glucksman Ireland House to help link Frank's two cities, Limerick and New York. LAUNCH OF UL RESEARCH IMPACT PODCAST SERIES

UL’s first podcast series is now available on the UL Research Impact podcast channel. The series explores the tremendous contributions UL research is making in the real world. From rehabilitating mining sites, helping voters make informed choices at the ballot box, strategies to combat physical inactivity in Ireland and improving the quality of life for people with MS, the series brings our research stories to a global audience.

Dr Mary Shire, Vice President Research, said; “The UL Research Impact Podcast series provides a forum for our research community to discuss the great impact their research is having across society. UL was the first Irish University to roll-out a research impact case study programme in 2014, since then we have built up a body of high quality, evidenced-based impact case studies.“ Visit the channelhere

UL ALUMNI BLOG…PAUL GLEESON BBS '98

In 2006, Paul Gleeson BBS ’98 became the youngest Irish person ever to row across the Atlantic Ocean.He has also completed other unique expeditions including cycling 5,000km coast to coast across Australia.On the UL Alumni Blog, Paul, a professional performance coach, shares his thoughts on how setting meaningful goals and being truly present in your pursuit of them will create much more beneficial results.Click hereto read more.

UL ALUMNI BLOG ... SIOBHÁN MULKERRINS BA '09

In 2014, Siobhan Nolan-Mulkerrins BA(New Media & English)and her husband Robert BEng (Biomedical Engineering) '08 with their son, Michael moved to Puerto Rico in the Carribbean.
