UL Love Stories

The UL campus has played cupid to many a pairing over the years. Love stories that started out from awkward chats at Orientation, sparks that ignited during lucky pairings in group projects and chance conversations at the bar in The Stables. Here are just a few love stories of students who were struck by cupid's arrow at UL and they all lived happily ever after. . . .
Rachel Guerin BBS ’10, GDip ’11 & Tony Foote BBS ‘08
Rachel and Tony met whilst attending UL in 2008 - both were studying Business. Rachel was in second year at the time, with Tony in fourth year.
It was the University Concert Hall that brought them together, both working there as front of house staff part time. It was Rachel that made the first move, declaring that she "would be a lovely little girlfriend" for Tony!
Never a truer word was spoken, and in 2015, Rachel and Tony got married. They returned to the campus on their wedding day for some photos, their favourite being the picture on the living bridge.
Today, Rachel and Tony are working and living in Dublin. Tony is working in Google, as the Business Controller for Google Payments. Rachel, who did her HDip in UL also, is on a career break from teaching, and now turning her hand to a career with another tech company, Zendesk, working in the finance team.
Mark Blennerhassett BSc '10 & Lisa Falvey BA '10
Lisa met Mark back in 2006 when they were both studying at UL. They met through mutual friends and they lived together as friends for a while. Lisa moved abroad for a year as part of her degree and when she returned the two were inseparable. They began dating on St. Patrick’s Day 2009 and their relationship blossomed from there
At the couple’s wedding in June 2016 their seating plan was named after all of the places in the University of Limerick which had particular significance to them and their relationship.
Siobhán Nolan BA ’09 & Robert Mulkerrins BEng ‘08
Siobhán and Robert met in late 2005 at UL. Siobhán was looking for a house with a friend and ended up moving in next door to Robert. She was in first year New Media & English and he was in second year of Biomedical Engineering. After some initial slagging about being from Wexford and a bad joke about strawberries they became friends and started going out together in the summer of 2006 after a very romantic first date in The Lodge.
After surviving COOP and Erasmus away from each other Siobhán and Rob got engaged in 2010 and were married in Wexford in 2012 (she forgave him for his initial jokes about her home county.)
They had a little boy Michael in 2014 and Siobhán started work for Fine Gael as political assistant for Minister Paul Kehoe. In May 2015 the couple relocated to Puerto Rico in the Caribbean as Rob was offered an expat assignment with Abbott. They expect to be there until mid-2018 and say they have a lot to thank UL for.
Colin Doherty BSc '15 & Francis Lee
Picture the scene. . Colin and Fran first met at the Clubs and Societies Recruitment drive back in 2011. Colin walked up to join Out in UL’s stand, picking up an unnecessary female condom pack on the way. Throughout a long series of events (soon to be made an Oscar winning movie) their relationship blossomed into…word vomit.
Their love always been a part of the UL Wolves, from the wolf paw shaped hickey received in Costello’s, to falling over at C&S balls. Colin is now working in Dublin and Fran is a current UL student but they are making it work meeting at weekends and keeping in touch online.
Marie & Michael O’Loughlin BEng ’03, MEng '10
They met at the University of Limerick in October 2005. Marie had been at UL on Erasmus the previous year and had come back to work on her final year thesis in the wireless research group. Mike was already there working on his Masters and Marie got a desk close to Mike. After a few coffees in the canteen and late night chats they started dating in January 2006.
It is now over 10 years since they meet in UL and since 2007 are living in Sweden, just bought a house last summer and have two kids - Klara nearly 4 years and Axel 16 months.
Mike is on parental leave right now but works with train signalling systems at Bombardier and Marie is a Project Manager at an IT-consultant company.
They both have great memories of their time in UL!
Did you meet 'the one' on campus? We would love to hear your UL love story.
